Collabo Registration Form + Fee
New to the Collabo? The WhatupHomee Collaborative has an annual (September 1st- August 31st) registration fee of $25 per student, up to $75 per family. New students will need to add the Collabo Registration Form + Fee to the Class Fee to register with the Collabo and enroll in their first class. *Enrollment is not complete until both registration and class fees are paid.

Black Boys in Literature
In this 6-week course, we will read the novel ‘As Brave as You’ by Jason Reynolds. The focus will be to discuss the writing techniques used for character building and identifying societal themes that go into the process of writing a story. Throughout the course, students will learn how to craft character descriptions and the steps to growing a story while reflecting on the connections they take from the book. At the end of the course, students should have up to a 2-page story using the tools learned throughout.

*Class is open to all genders*

Meeting Times: 1:00pm-2:00pm CST

Required Materials: ‘As Brave as You’ by Jason Reynolds *(Included in class price)
Supplies: Notebook, writing tools (not included in class price)

*Books will be mailed the week before class starts. Enroll by January 9th.

    Is it too late to register my son for the class? I am trying to inspire him to want to read even when he struggles with words. I am thinking if he sees others like him that he may be encouraged. Thoughts?

      No, it’s not too late. Books will be shipped this weekend. Classes start next Saturday, January 23rd.
