Future Heroes (age 10 and up)
June 17 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM$25.00 – $48.00
During this four-week class, students will make new friends
or reconnect with old ones as we read and discuss
Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Boy by Emmanuel Acho.
We will engage with the text through discussion questions and writing
exercises like copywork, free writes, written narration, and other interactive activities.
Students will learn about our past heroes as they prepare to take up the
mantle in the fight to dismantle racism as our Future Heroes.
The book is titled “… with a Black Boy” because it is a narrative from the
author’s perspective as if he’s having a conversation with a white person
about uncomfortable topics surrounding race.
Therefore, this class is not just for boys. Girls are encouraged to enroll as well.
This class can count towards Social Studies and/or ELA credit.
