Math Discovery 2: Fine Tune Those Skills (ages 9-11)
January 12 @ 3:00 PM - 3:55 PM$25 – $120
Math Discovery Section 2: Fine Tune Those Skills
In this second section of our six-week course, students will review the four basic operations:
addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. New concepts will include rounding whole and
decimal numbers, solving expressions using the order of operations, and simplifying fractions. The
course will emphasize mastery of math terms and definitions affording students the ability to
comprehend and express the concepts learned. This course is ideal for students who have
completed 3rd-grade math.
Each class will begin with a quick positive affirmation and encouragement. Then, we will
transition to a multiplication facts drill and review of the recent assignment followed by an
introduction of the new lesson with demonstrations and guided practice. Each week will include
a review of a previously covered lesson. Students will engage with the lessons using games,
interactive manipulatives, and puzzles.
Mastery of skills is the ultimate goal so practice outside
of live instruction is imperative. Students will receive assignments through a popular learning
management system to be completed before the next session. Parents will receive regular
feedback on their student’s progress.
Course focus areas: solving multi-digit multiplication, multi-digit division, PEMDAS, expressions,
equations, applied math word problems
Prerequisite: Successful completion of 3rd-grade math and ability to read independently.
