Young Adult Literature

In this 6-week course, we will read the novel ‘Swing’ by Kwame Alexander with
Mary Rand Hess. The focus will be to discuss the writing techniques used for
character building and identifying societal themes that go into the process of
writing a story. Throughout the course, students will learn how to craft character
descriptions and the steps to growing a story while reflecting on the connections
they take from the book. At the end of the course, students should have up to a 2-
