The Grammar Garage: Grab Those Fundamental Tools (Ages 8-11)

In this six week course, learners will rev up their language skills using

high-engagement picture books as mentor texts. Handpicked inclusive

and diverse books serve as mirrors and windows, inviting students to

notice, identify, revise, and imitate well-crafted writing. One mentor

sentence from each book will set the framework for modeling sentence

style, grammar, and mechanics. In our workshop approach, students will

construct a knowledge base for identifying the primary nuts and bolts of

sentence structure: subjects and predicates.

Then your language technician, Mrs. Williams, will guide you through the

initial gears of these categories:

1. Parts of Speech
2. Capitalization & Punctuation
3. Kinds of Sentences
4. Figures of Speech

So reach into your language arts toolbox and prepare to hammer out the rules

of grammar with Mrs. Williams in The Grammar Garage.
